Kiwanis International is a global network of people who serve together to change children’s lives. We create opportunities for children to grow and thrive while remaining safe and healthy regardless of the community in which they live. The organization takes on large-scale challenges, and has been involved in disaster relief, supported kids of all abilities, and more.
The Kiwanis mission
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.
The Kiwanis vision
Kiwanis will be a positive influence in communities worldwide — so that one day, all children will wake up in communities that believe in them, nurture them and provide the support they need to thrive.
The Kiwanis motto
Serving the children of the world
The Kiwanis objectives
To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life.
To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.
To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business and professional standards.
To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive and serviceable citizenship.
To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service and to build better communities.
To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism and goodwill.
Here is a quick video that explains what Kiwanis is.
Kiwanis is a mosaic of ordinary people doing extraordinary things to uplift our communities and serve children around the world.
Our History
Kiwanis International was founded in 1915 in Detroit, Michigan, U.S. Kiwanis means “we build” from the Algonquian Native American language family and today we have built up to over 7,000 clubs in 81 different countries, improving lives through fellowship in service worldwide.
Members organize around 150,000 service projects and have devoted more than 18.5 million hours to serving our community. Each year, Kiwanis raises more than US $100 million every year for communities, families and projects.
The structure
Members in Kiwanis are structured into clubs, divisions, regions, and districts within the organization of Kiwanis International. A club is, of course, a group of members in a localized region or city. A division is typically a cluster of clubs in the same area. For example, our division- Division 7– includes 12 clubs:
Divisions are grouped into 1 of the 59 districts which are often at the state or country level. Division 7 is a part of the California-Nevada-Hawaii District, often called the Cal-Nev-Ha or the CNH District for short. The CNH District is the largest district in Kiwanis International and further divides its 47 divisions into 18 regions. Division 7 is a part of Region 16 which also includes neighboring Division 44 and Division 27.
So, the Kiwanis Club of Davis is in Division 7, in Region 16, in the California-Nevada-Hawaii District, within Kiwanis International.
Kiwanis Service
Kiwanis empowers communities to improve the world by making lasting differences in the lives of children. Kiwanis strives to be a positive influence in communities worldwide — so that one day, all children will wake up in communities that believe in them, nurture them and provide the support they need to thrive. Our Kiwanis club fulfills the Kiwanis mission by serving our community through Kiwanis Community Service Projects.
Service is at the heart of every Kiwanis club, no matter where in the world it’s located. By working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone.
Our Kiwanis club focuses on changing the world by serving children, one child in our community at a time. To reach more people and have a greater service impact on our community, we sponsor clubs within the Kiwanis family — Key Clubs for teens and Circle K clubs for university students.
